US & Europe Leader's Perceptions of the Ideal Employees and implications

Every manager can describe the traits and behaviors of Ideal Employees. The mental image of the prototypical team member can evolve into implicit, or unspoken ideas and expectations and influence a wide variety of interactions between managers and employees. Research has shown that managers’ implicit expectations can have positive and negative effects on employee motivation, performance or work relationships.

However, how does the image of an Ideal Employee image come about in managers ‘minds?

Andrea will share the insights gained from two studies that she conducted in Germany and the USA. Specifically, she will discuss the following questions:

  • What does the Ideal Employee look like in Germany and the USA?
  • Which conclusions can be drawn for the leadership practice?

  • How does national and organizational culture shape leaders’ Ideal Employee Profile?

The format for this contribution is a 20-minute presentation, followed by a facilitated group discussion.
