Hello Change SIG Members:

Today at our monthly meeting we received an update from Dr. Terry Morris, DVM, PhD, a local veterinarian and founder of Vets to Vets United, Inc.  Terry first attended our Change SIG meeting one year ago where she presented her plans to establish a not-for-profit organization that would pair returning vets with trained service dogs.  The focus was on helping our US Military Veterans experience a natural alternative for healing, while simultaneously saving our animals at shelters.

Terry received an enthusiastic reception at that first meeting and many great ideas. In the intervening year, Dr. Morris trained and placed several service dogs with vets and has recently established a physical location in Durham for the work to continue.  Today we had the pleasure of meeting Brittany, a delightful pit bull/golden lab mix who will be in an upcoming training class.  Terry has received the 501(c)(3) status for the organization and needs continued funding and support.

Thanks, Change SIG members.  We feel we played a small part in the birth of this organization and wanted to continue to support its important work!

FIFTH Friday, March 29 - What Happens When a Veterinarian Brings Veterans Needing Service Animals and Dogs from Shelters Together? VISION UPDATE from January 2012 Change SIG

Terry Morris, DVM, PhD and Executive Director of Veterinarians to Veterans United, will share with us what she has accomplished since she attended her first meeting with the Change SIG in January 2012.

Come learn about her 'dream come true' of Veterinarians to Veterans United, Inc. (Vets to Vets United, Inc.), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization consisting of local Veterinarians and volunteers working together to provide companion/therapeutic/service animals and discounted veterinary care to our U.S. Military Veterans suffering from loneliness, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury and physical disabilities.  This service will also significantly reduce the number of animals euthanized at the local animal shelters. It is the aim of this organization to provide these services and training at no cost to the Veteran.

See how Terry's persistence, networking, passion, and determination has built an organization that is building a better life for both veterans and shelter animals.
