Barry Borgerson, co-facilitator of our Adaptive-Culture SIG will lead this session. It will challenge participants to identify areas in their personal life, in society, and in business where automatic human activities play a decisive role in controlling outcomes. We will also explore different ways automatic actions control us – both helpfully and detrimentally. We will then investigate why one type of unconscious action has now caused us to pass the tipping point of determining successes and well-being in so many areas of life. After recognizing the widespread impact of involuntary actions, we will apply that insight to reveal why adaptive cultures are so elusive and explore ways to overcome that barrier – the increasingly harmful knowing-doing gap.
Experience working with members of our talent development and organization development organizations who show interest in culture change and adaptive cultures reveals that most do not understand the critical importance of involuntary activities to these topics. We will interactively explore a new path forward for conquering adaptive-culture barriers in the context of other major challenges we face in society.
Barry recently completed a book manuscript, Growing Up Is Hard to Do! – The Urgent Need for the West to Transform, which explores the widespread and growing impact of certainty illusions. It also directly addresses our problem of adaptive cultures. Barry is prepared to provide a few complementary copies in exchange for mutually beneficial pre-publication feedback.
Once registered, a Zoom meeting link will be sent via email prior to the event.
Attached is the charter for the Adaptive Culture SIG. Please have a look at it. This SIG is intended for ongoing open inquiry and mutual learning among attendees We look forward to vigorous exploration and a valuable learning experience for all.
