Leadership SIG - Confronting Bad Bosses - If Not Us, Then Who?

I have worked in corporate for some forty five years and during that time, we have made significant progress in how organizations function. We have become more efficient, market driven, and employee centric. I would like to think that the emergence of OD and HR best practices have had a lot to do with this. Before we take a collective bow, I have a bone to pick with us that is asked as a question in the SIG title.

A pet peeve of mine has been and remains why we struggle dealing with bad bosses. A case in point:

A company I once worked with brought in a new CEO and everyone, with the exception of the board who hired him, saw the train wreck coming. After three years of horrible leadership and strategic blunders, the board axed the CEO but not before he nearly destroyed the company.

This story is not unique. It happens all of the time. While there are many dynamics that allows this to occur, I suggest we discuss what we must do as a profession to solve this dilemma. I hope you will join Joe Doty and me August 18th at 4:00PM via Zoom
