The Surprising Power of Liberating Structures

    Betty Sheppard and Kate Scott

June 13, 2017 11:30-1:30

Lunch will be served

Do any of the following scenarios sound familiar to you?

  •      Pointless, boring meetings
  •    Side meetings after the meeting, where people say what they really think
  •     Trainings that lead to no action
  •     Difficult conversations are avoided and the real issue never gets addressed
  •     Fear and politics get in the way of doing the right thing
  •    Death by PowerPoint

Instead of continuing to rely on the Big Five conventional structures (the presentation, the managed discussion, the status report, the open discussion, and the brainstorm) and hoping for better results, why not try a new approach? Liberating structures are adaptable microstructures that make it quick and easy for groups of people of any size to radically improve how they interact and work together. Liberating structures allow you to tap into the full potential of an organization’s collective intelligence, something that is essential for succeeding in today’s fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

In this session you will learn the key concepts behind liberating structures and how to learn more, understand the role liberating structures can play in organizational change initiatives, and of course have the opportunity to practice using a few of them. You will leave with some additional tools in your OD toolbox to increase employee engagement, promote self-discovery and spark creative problem solving. Liberating structures can be small changes to routine practices that help unlock creative energy in individuals, teams and organizations, and we think once you have been exposed to them you’ll love using them as much as we do!
